Keeping in Touch
Welcome to the very first edition of my new monthly newsletter. It will be a short, sharp snapshot of what I’m working on - particularly here in Palmerston North. I hope you enjoy reading it and if at any stage you wish to stop receiving it just click on the unsubscribe link on the left.
My new website is also live now. Go to www.iainleesgallowaymp.org.nz to see what’s happening.
For those of you who make use of social media sites, I post on Facebook, Twitter and on the blog Red Alert.
Of course, you can’t beat good old fashioned face-to-face conversations. Feel free to drop into my office at 46 Princess Street or call us on 356 5956 or 356 5958.
Save The Capital Connection
Towards the end of 2009 I sought a meeting with KiwiRail to discuss the possibility of expanding the Capital Connection, the commuter train service that runs from Palmerston North to Wellington.
However it quickly became apparent that due to changes to the rail network south of Waikanae, KiwiRail is considering the future viability of the Capital Connection. There is a strong possibility the current service will be cut if we don’t show KiwiRail a strong case for retaining it.
I am working with other community leaders to develop a campaign to Save the Capital Connection. It has started already with a Facebook Group and there will be more soon.
I will keep you updated as things develop and let you know how you can help.
Youth Parliament 2010
Once in each term of Parliament, a Youth Parliament is held during one of the recesses. Youth Parliament is an opportunity for young leaders from across New Zealand to experience our democratic processes by debating a bill, asking questions of ministers and taking part in mock select committees.
Over the next two months I will be looking for someone to represent Palmerston North. I’m looking for someone in Year 12 or 13 at secondary school who is aware and passionate about youth issues, is a capable and confident communicator and who will do us proud in Wellington. If you or someone you know is interested in this opportunity, please contact my office and we will let you know the process.
